The Covance Institute, Philadelphia University, and SAS Institute Inc. are collaborating to provide state-of-the-art training for professionals interested in employment in the dynamic field of clinical research.
This six-month, non-credit program, offered twice annually, is designed for recent college graduates, professionals working in related fields, and career changers. Participants complete three distinct units--classroom training, an independent project, and a paid internship.
Program participants can expect to qualify for in-demand positions as SAS programmers in pharmaceutical companies and clinical research organizations.
In-class instruction will occur during the first seven weeks of the program and will be provided by SAS Institute Inc. and by Covance professionals. Participants will complete the six SAS Institute courses listed below.
Additional topics include an overview of the pharmaceutical industry, data issues, study design, data analysis and biostatistics.
This hands-on programming project will be directed by Covance professional staff members. Program participants will engage in a four-week independent project in which they will work with "real" data to produce tables and lists from "real" data for clinicial trials.
Participants will be placed in pharmaceutical companies and clinical research organizations located throughout the Greater Philadelphia area for a three-month paid internship. Participants will be supervised by the respective organizations and by professors.
Participants who have successfully completed all three phases of the program will receive a Certificate of Completion, in addition to the SAS certificates for each of the six SAS Institute courses. Students may not enroll in individual courses.
Classes meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Participants must submit an application for the SAS Programming Certificate program and be interviewed prior to acceptance into the program. Enrollment is limited, and admission to the program is competitive. Qualifications include a bachelor's degree.
Comprehensive tuition for the SAS Programming Certificate is $5,500; payable in three installments throughout the six-month program. Program participants will be compensated for their internships; therefore, a significant portion of the tuition may be re-imbursed.
Tuition does not include textbooks. (Note: Course notes accompanying SAS Institute classes are provided at no additional charge.)
The SAS Programming Certificate will be offered at Philadelphia University's Bucks County Campus, located in Trevose's Neshaminy Interplex, U.S. Route 1. The campus is convenient to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 95.
