Amazon.com is seeking statistical and data mining analysts at various levels. We are interested in recent graduates (at BS, MS, or PhD levels), and candidates with significant experience. There are a number of potential positions (particularly at the more junior level), both in the data mining group and the experimental design groups. In the Data Mining group we are looking for candidates who are strong in S-Plus, SAS, or statistical programming in C or C++. Prowess in exploratory data analysis, sampling, transformations and manipulation, SQL, experimental design, multivariate statistics, and data mining tool suites (suitable examples might include Clementine, Datasage, Enterprise Miner, Intelligent Miner, Neovista, or SPSS Neural Connections) will significantly increase likelihood of acceptance. Basic Accountability Statement

Under general supervision, responsible for major credit policy projects requiring advanced analytical, quantitative and computer skills. Develops and recommends credit risk policy positions as appropriate.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Conducts major research projects relating to customers of HI's consumer business units, including project design, data collection, analysis, summary of findings, recommendations and presentation of results.
  2. Monitors and evaluates performance of credit support systems utilizing external scoring, management software packages or programs to aid in managing account acquisition and portfolio management.
  3. Conducts studies of customer groups and product types, and develops computerbased models for projections, e.g. delinquency and chargeoff, cost and profitability, new account acquisition, credit limit setting, and account management.
  4. Gathers and analyzes economic data to determine impact on business operations as appropriate.
  5. Designs and writes mainframe and PC programs for statistical, analysis of portfolio performance.
  6. Supervises, trains and reviews the work of Credit Risk Analysts or special project teams, as necessary.
  7. Evaluates and implements internal and external credit scoring using both traditional and other advanced technologies.
  8. May manage projects to develop recommendations for credit policy, bulk acquisitions, new merchant programs structures, profitability/pricing for accounts and portfolios, and provides revenue, cost, delinquency and loss forecasts.
  9. May be responsible for ensuring that account acquisition or account management systems are operating efficiently. Codes, tests and implements new policy changes for account acquisition or account management systems. 1
  10. Performs other projects or special assignments as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Finance, Economics or equivalent required. Master's degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field preferred. Two to four years prior credit risk experience with a good working knowledge of lending, collections and credit risk needed. Must have analytical, computer, and statistical skills as well as ability to approach problems in a quantitative manner. Solid written and oral communication skills required. Computer programming skills must include 12 years use of statistical programs like SAS or SAP or advanced use of data base programs.
