A couple suggestions about viewing these videos with Windows Media Player:

  • Best seen using the ZOOM at 100% or better using FULL SCREEN Mode
  • Have your audio on
  • Make sure Windows Media Player is in Maximum screen size mode, to get the full effect.
  • Learn how to use the PAUSE, START and STOP buttons with the click of your mouse.
  • Learn how to increase/decrease the audio (sliding button)
  • Learn how to resize the screen to the maximum without losing the control bars at the bottom
  • Learn to use the STANDARD, COMPACT, and MINIMAL option in the VIEW tool bar
  • Learn to use the SPACE bar and Period Key to Start and Stop the Video
  • If you hear the video but have no picture, you will need to download the TSCC.EXE file (Click here to download it) and execute it on your desktop. It will add another CODEC to Windows Media Player so that you can see the video.

I would love to get your feedback on this technique, content, quality, time to download, etc. Anything which you can comment (good or bad) to make future productions much better. Thank for your time and critique!

Frequently Asked Questions and Comments about the SAS On-Line Video Tutorial

  1. How to make an Old program do New Things - or, How to Parameterize your SAS program
    (file size = 1887 KB, video length = 9 minutes 54 seconds or 09:54)
(cost is FREE, approximate download time is 8 minutes or less at 56K)
(rated "G" by Motion Picture Film Academy)

The screen quality should be good but I would like to get your reactions to the screen quality which I can increase a bit more but will require larger file sizes.

I purposely left out audio (except for the key strokes you can hear) so as to keep the file size to a minimum. Audio can and will make files larger, even with compression. This sample video in its original size is approximately 10 Megs which would be prohibited in downloading. However, with compression and self-executing EXE files, I managed to get it down to 1887 KB. Hopefully, what is displayed and written is enough to get my point.

When a new screen shows up in the video, I suggest you PAUSE the Media Player to provide you with sufficient time to read the contents on that screen. Then when you have finished reading, you can click on the ARROW button to proceed through the rest of the video. You can always start the video over again, or using the scroll button, you can fast advance or rewind to where you want.

This being my first Web Base Training Video, I have a lot to learn and practice in getting higher quality production as well as more effective material concerning the learning process. But with your help, I hope to improve all aspects as time progresses.

    (file size = 1938 KB, video/audio length = 5 minutes 32 seconds or 05:32)

    (rated "B" for SAS Beginner)

This video includes AUDIO as well! Please pardon my voice - I am not Robert Redford! I am testing how to compress audio and video together in order to make a presentation file as small as possible for downloading efficiency. You may have to adjust up or down the volume to hear the presentation which best suits your preference.
